Beethoven – Violin Concerto

Henry Tong – Violin
Joel Sandelson – Conductor

The Barbican Chamber Orchestra returns to St John’s for a magnificent all-Beethoven programme after its highly successful debut there last season. Joel Sandelson directs the enormous ‘Eroica’ Symphony and the sublime Violin Concerto with up-and-coming soloist Henry Tong. Beethoven’s heroic middle-period works have long been thought to represent the concerns of humanity at large, and this fine young ensemble approaches them with fire and commitment.

The Volta Quartet, an established ensemble in their own right of the orchestra’s four principal string players, give a free pre-concert recital of Beethoven first ‘Razumovsky’ quartet.
